Compared to conventional Battery Control Units (BCU's) and Chargers, the Acme Aerospace BCU offers these benefits...
- LOW COST
- LIGHTWEIGHT
- COMPACT DESIGN
- IMPROVED SAFETY
- HIGH RELIABILITY
- UNIFORM OUTPUT
- PROTECTS BATTERY, BUS, AND AVIONICS
- REDUCES BATTERY MAINTENANCE
- EXTENDS BATTERY LIFE WHEN COMBINED WITH FNC BATTERIES....ZERO MAINTENANCE
The Battery Control Unit (BCU) utilizes sophisticated switch-mode rectifiers instead of conventional magnetic components. Simply put, fewer and smaller components are required. This eliminates weight up to 35%, reduces size, produces superior performance and results in significant cost savings.
Our switch-mode technology utilizes the latest switching devices, with ultra low on resistance and extremely fast switch times. This technology is 90-93% efficient, compared to the typical 75% efficiency of traditional designs. This permits lighter, smaller components in comparison with outmoded transformer chargers.
Our BCU technology is the most reliable in the marketplace. Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is significantly improved. What's more, our BCU's produce extremely low ripple DC output-typically less than 60mV peak to - peak. This reduces stress on your other electronics, enhancing overall system reliability.
Proven control features protect your battery, bus and avionics systems from major failure. A detection circuit will automatically initiate charging when a battery requires recharge. Charging terminates when full capacity potential is reached, preventing excessive overcharging which typically results in battery damage. The BCU is also capable of detecting open or shorted cells in the battery.
Battery temperature is constantly monitored to stay within design tolerances to prevent thermal runaway in vented NiCd batteries. This temperature control also extends vented battery watering intervals, reconditioning intervals and battery life by as much as 30%.
The Acme Aerospace BCU is designed in accordance with appropriate DO-160 requirements.
Our BCU will optimize the performance of all types of aircraft batteries, including valve-regulated or vented lead-acid, vented NiCd, or our Zero-Maintenance sealed Fiber Nickel-Cadmium (FNC) batteries.
The combination of the Zero-Maintenance FNC battery and our BCU produces an integrated, state-of the art power system with Zero Maintenance, and unmatched performance and cost of ownership.
The Acme Aerospace Battery Control Unit (BCU) is a cost effective, lightweight, controller/charger for your power system. Battery safety protection is provided via cell balance and temperature sensor monitors. The BCU can also accept logic signals from the aircraft electrical system to reinitiate a charge cycle after any APU start.
The BCU provides Built in-Test (BIT) signals, including battery malfunction, system malfunction and/or charger malfunction. The BCU can be configured to receive power from the available aircraft power generator by either 3 phase 115 VAC, 28VDC or 270 VDC input.
BCU output voltage is tightly controlled to maximize full recharge capability, while minimizing maintenance. The BCU meets all Electromagnetic Interface (EMI) requirements as specified in applicable revisions of DO-160 and Mil-Std 462. High Intensity Radio Frequency (HIRF) is certified up to 200V/m.
